Tis 2000 Universal Security Key Dongle For Tech 2
With every upgrade to a newer version of Mac OS, you can expect to need a new network card. People who use Apple coverage to update OSX find that Apple WWAN cards take a while to notice, but after a month or two, the WWAN card will start quitting. If you want to keep up with the new Macs, get a Mac Pro upgrade and use the internal USB WWAN card. This will take care of all the Apple hardware setup you need to do.
Apple WWAN cards are required with every upgrade to every version of OSX. Some of the RTW cards cost $40 or so and work great. They fill a hole in the Apple ecosystem, but mine failed after a few years.
The Mac Pro can upgrade itself. You just need the Pro SSD and to hold the bootable disk in for ten minutes. Boot your MacPro from an OSX Lion/Snow Leopard install disk and hold the alt key for it to run.
If you run into a problem with one of the red lights blinking, it’s a simple but obscure solution. If a light begins to blink repeatedly after a reboot, it’s a “true” problem. If a single light blinks, then you’re in the dark. You need to clear Apple’s SMC (System Management Controller).
If you have a USB powered external one, you have bigger problems. The USB powered versions have the same problem as the Apple built-in card. Before it fails, the WWAN won’t work. It’s not due to hardware, just Apple lockout.
